“Not all of us can afford to be romantic” | Modern Marriage: More Than One Way to Start a Life Together

By Laura Lorta* What is tradition?  The dictionary definition, “the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation”, is a beautiful tribute to history—the passing down of a legacy. That is something to aspire to, assuming that the customs of the generations before you are ones that you wish to pass down. But what about when they aren’t? Marriage is one of the most traditional institutions in existence. It began as an alliance between two families, in which neither the bride nor the groom had a say-so, and it has, over time, evolved into a commitment made by two people who choose to spend the rest of their lives…

    Osnaeley + Austin

Story + Photos by Andrea Enger Osnaeley says, “I fell in love with Austin for the first time when I saw how well he got along with my family—and how much he made me laugh. We were automatically best friends, and it was just a connection unlike any relationship I have ever had. Nobody compared to him.” Austin felt the same heart tug during that fateful visit when he got to meet her family and see her childhood bedroom. “I just really knew I loved her at that point, even though we hadn’t said it out loud yet.” They met at a mutual friend’s house while they were still in…

  • Taylor + Tyler

Story + Photos by Diandra Brooks Taylor and Tyler celebrated their marriage with their closest friends and family on September 5, 2021. It was a gorgeous evening. The party, in Tyler’s parents’ backyard, was simple yet elegant. Taylor and Tyler actually got married before this celebration, but travel restrictions meant the two had to postpone celebrating with their friends and family. However, it was well worth the wait. The party was lovely, and you could hear laughter all throughout the neighborhood. The two even brought their dog, Obi, to help with the festivities. They spent the night popping champagne, eating pasta, and hugging their sweet friends. Photography: Photos by Diandra…

  • Thamanna + Jordan

Story + Photos by Emily Elizabeth Photography As this bride captioned on her Instagram: “Some scenes from our climate apocalypse-themed engagement shoot, AKA everything sucks, so let’s hold onto love a little tighter today…” When Jordan and Thamanna came out to Colorado to have their engagement session, the nearby wildfires burning created a beautiful haze over the mountains. Even though this haze was not a part of their original plans, they went ahead, and it created such a spectacular mood for the entire session. Thamanna’s first outfit was a traditional sari in honor of her Indian cultural background. They had originally planned to host a celebration in India with friends…

Fast forward three years, and in the midst of the pandemic, Nick proposed in our home with our two Australian cattle dogs by his side on June 3, 2020. It wasn’t his original plan, but with the world we were living in at the time, that plan was quickly dismissed. We both knew we wanted to get married in the fall, and when we had found The Landing at…
