An Eco-Friendly Elopement

Story by Maréa Janae of Dream Catcher Weddings | Photos by Lyndsey Leach Photography

What might an eco-friendly elopement look like in action, you might ask? Well, like any other wedding day, that depends on the unique needs and values of each couple. With the creativity of my fellow Earth-conscious wedding vendors, we’ve put together a zero-waste styled shoot to inspire a start-to-finish glimpse into a ‘Big Day’ gone green.

Overlooking beautiful Cheyenne Mountain, the sister-operated Venetucci Farm and venue makes sustainability a primary (and breathtakingly scenic) mission, from cutting out single-use plastics, to recycling, composting, and upcycling wherever possible (including the entire barn wall of repurposed wood).

Gather Mountain Blooms, whose flower farm operates on the same property, also prioritizes reusable materials for their vibrant floral arrangements, as well as utilizing sustainable growing and composting practices to give back to nature.

Letters by Ivey Invitation SuiteBorn with Dreams Crochet Altar

Every detail from the hand-made invitations (Letters by Ivey) to the thoughtfully-crafted décor (Born With Dreams) was made-with-love using 100% recycled, Earth-friendly materials.

Make-up artist Hannah Elizabeth uses only cruelty-free, eco-conscious products, and strives to reduce single-use beauty items.

Our chosen officiant Judith Piazza’s love for the Earth and intentionality come alive in her ceremonial offerings. Both the phenomenal photographer (Lyndsey Leach Photography) and our own planning company (Dream Catcher Weddings) put mother nature first by offsetting carbon from travel, using recycled materials whenever possible, and donating to charity.

Billy and Nicole have been modeling together since before they were a couple. After their first photoshoot photos were released, everyone said that their love was captured within them. Unknown to Billy, that photoshoot was done on Nicole’s Grandpa’s Birthday. Nicole was very close with her grandpa, and although he had passed away previously, she knew that this was his sign and his blessing that he approved of Billy. Billy was also super close with his grandpa (who sadly has also passed away). His Grandpa’s sign was butterflies. He would say that whenever you saw a butterfly, it was him. As soon as Billy and Nicole became a couple, a butterfly landed on her and stayed there for a while, when she was at work. With their grandpas’ blessings, their family’s permission, and their true love for one another, Billy & Nicole were married September of 2021!
